CD Reviews

Undeservedly undiscovered

"I will never understand why this album never received any attention. From beginning to end, this was one of the most engaging albums I ever owned. The first track "Sweet Virginia Breeze" is so catchy that it later became a commercial jingle. And with all the junk that was popular in the late 70's/early 80's, how could "Candy Apple Red" not be a top 40 hit. In the Tidewater, Virginia area, where Robbin Thompson continues to be popular, this was voted the year's best album, tied with Pink Floyd - The Wall. It is not complicated or sophisticated, just straight forward, enjoyable rock. A few years ago, I finally found it on CD, and it was like regaining an old friend. In addition to the tracks I mentioned earlier, I especially like "barroom romance" which is fast-paced and catchy, and "all alone in the end zone" (anybody in their 30's or 40's who can't visualize the girl in the song hasn't didn't go to high school.) If you want to reminisce about simpler times/high school days, listen to this record. It is also great highway music. I hear that Robbin Thompson is still playing locally in Southeastern VA, but I will always think that he deserved better for this great effort.Last note: Robbin Thompson had one other great song, "Take me away", but I have never been able to find a CD version or even the old LP."
One Of My All Time Top 5

"I guess you had to be there. I was lucky enough to have been. This was a southeast regional band in the late 70's and early 80's. It is hard to have gone to college then and not have heard of this record. Every song brings back floods of wonderful memories. This was a party band period. Start to finish, excellent pop music. If you are interested, Robbin is still making records! His latest album 'One Step Ahead of the Blues" is, in my opinion, as good as Two B's. All of his are available at his web site Robbinthompson.com. It would be great if Amazon would pick em up and put on their list. Enjoy"
Holds up after all these years

"Having lost my vinyl version of this in Hurricane Isabel last year, and having seen Robbin LIVE in Richmond again last night (9/23/04) after all these years, I'm buying the CD ! I had forgotten just how great these guys are and how timeless their sound is. I heartily recommend 2 B's Please to anyone who loves great blues-influenced rock and roll. Robbin's voice is great, and every member of the band is a fantastic musician, especially Eric Heiberg on keyboards who is amazing. I loved them when I was in college, and they didn't let me down when I saw them again last night. It's such a shame more people don't know about Robbin Thompson band, because they're too good not to be shared outside of the SouthEast !"
