Synopsis

Album Description
Workin? Like A Dog, is Robbie ?Trumpet? Smith?s first solo CD named after the real-life analogy of the working class while describing what he had to do to get his tracks recorded and pressed. It arrives with energy and punch that it?ll have you tapping your toes with the music in no time. Radiating the musicality of some of San Diego?s well-known top local performers, in addition to the talents of this trumpeter, Smith comes out of the sidelines shining as he expertly plays his trumpet, and shares his raw, yet suave vocals in covers and original songs. While Smith is the first to admit that he is a trumpet player first and singer second, he actually does a nice rendition of "That Old Black Magic" in a duet with the talented Alicia Aragon. This CD includes a couple of older songs made famous by other artists, including "That Old Black Magic," and "Willow Weep for Me," with the later performed as a solo by Ms. Aragon. Robbie Smith is a true performer in every sense of the word. He toured all over the world with renowned Blues Diva Candye Kane, in addition to playing with local Blues Bands, Swing Bands, Big Bands, Jazz Ensembles, and Top 40s Groups. His trumpet playing has an exquisite quality and unique style, which will leave you wanting more! Taking inspiration from the most prominent of trumpet influences, such as Chet Baker, Clifford Brown, and Maynard Ferguson, blended with the stylistic influences of Louis Prima, Louis Jordan, and Wynonie Harris. A Southern California native, Smith gigs steadily in the San Diego area.? Teri Conrad, Entertainment Reviewer.
