Synopsis

With The Sinister Urge, Rob Zombie again wraps his rasp around a thunderous blend of heavy grooves powered by human and electronic drums. Creepy touches of theremin and keyboards add goth accents, while the clever arrangements adorn melodies that are irresistibly catchy yet plenty aggressive. The lyrics are set firmly in a horror realm; with titles such as "House of 1000 Corpses" and "Scum of the Earth," one wouldn't anticipate tender love songs. Zombie scatters about sound bites from monster movies for good measure--an apt touch, but with the album clocking in at less than 40 minutes, there's a bit too much filler. Still, with highlights such as "Bring Her Down" with its spine- tingling orchestration, the hard-driving "Dead Girl Superstar" (featuring Slayer guitarist Kerry King), and "Feel So Numb," Zombie generates much genuine excitement. --Gail Flug

CD Reviews

Rob zombie keeps the momentum going with sinister urge!!
Paul Mcguinn | chicago il usa. | 03/07/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"rob zombie released sinister urge in 2001.sinister urge was the follow up to his amazing solo album ;hellbilly deluxe.sinister urge has the same band personel as hellbilly deluxe.however also noteable are the guest appearances of ;ozzy osbourne, tommy lee from motley crue and kerry king from slayer.scott humphries once again produced sinister urge[as he did hellbilly deluxe.] and the results were and are a very strong album.as other reviewers have stated rob zombie,s hellbilly deluxe and sinister urge are perfect music for Halloween and other special events.white zombie,s astro creep 2000 and la sexocisto are also good for halloween and other events.for me the great tunes on this are;demon speeding, never gonna stop, iron head[with ozzy singing duet with rob],feel so numb, house of 1000 corpses[an awesome creepy song!!]dead superstar,go to california and bring her down.this album and hellbilly deluxe are two of rob zombie,s finest albums and sinister urge would be a good addition for any serious rob zombie collection!"

"A GOOD CD, BUT DEFINATIVELY NOT ONE OF HIS BETTER ONES. STILL GOOD TO HAVE."
