CD Reviews

Accessible and Fun

(4 out of 5 stars)

"OK, so even a class act like Richie succumbed to the all powerfull (albeit brief) reign of disco. Thankfully, the affects are not fatal and only seriously infect one song, "It's your Love". All that can easily be overlooked (after all it was 1978) in light of the overall charms of this record. Either from maturity or record company pressure, Richie has backed off the more direct spiritual refrences that were the mainstay of his previous release, "I've Got a Reason", in favor of sweet love songs. He even does a nice cover of The Drifters' "This Magic Moment". The arrangements are simple and fun and the musicianship is excellent, featuring the likes of Timothy B. Schmit (the Eagles), Chris Hillman (Poco, Desert Rose Band), Jim Messina (Poco, Loggins & Messina), and ... David Cassidy (Partrige Family)! Though I have always been a bigger fan of "I've Got a Reason" (see my review), I find this one is spending alot of time in my CD player.
I'm not sure if these reissues have been digitally re-mastered, but this one in particular sounds crystal clear. No bonus material, but all original info is included (credits, lyrics, art work)."
