Novelty trumps art

"The Rheostatics are clever, versatile, and articulate---that much is granted. Throughout this CD, there are many good to excellent songs, but an overall tone that suggests novelty trumps art drives a wedge between listener and musician at times.

Hence, many songs, such as the wonderful Claire, radiate 5 stars but the oddities outnumber the stars in this collection. Still, any Rheostatics recording is worth more than a casual listen, and the rich, colorul artwork would be enticement enough were we talking about album-sized covers."
