Album DescriptionA native of Tiaret, a large city and former capital of western Algeria, Reinette L'Oranaise sang, for over half a century, all the classical treasures from the Arab-Andalucian tradition. At the age of sixteen, the teenager was entrusted to maestro Saoud, who also taught Lili Boniche, and whose café in Oran was a rare meeting place for musicians, writers, and local stars. Later, she took part in radio shows gathering the best artists of Algiers' chaabi and Andalous music, and joined the orchestra of Hadj El Anka, the creator of the casbah chaabi. She has left us several recordings, including this one, and a song featured on the musical score of Rachida, a splendid film by Yamina Bachi Chouikh.
