Phenomenal - Required listening for all Black Strobe fans!

"This is the full length album that "Burn Your Own Church" should have been. If you're like me, Black Strobe will always be associated with their early work - "Chemical Sweet Girl", "Me and Madonna", "Innerstrings", "The Abwehr Disco", and the like. Their new vocal-heavy direction is interesting, but I vastly prefer the dark electro elements over Rebotini's sub par vocal work. Rebotini always said "Black Strobe is not a democracy", which I never quite believed until now. All the Black Strobe elements are out in full force and it's as good as anything they've ever done. It seems that Rebotini is just transferring the Black Strobe sound to his own name.



I could describe it in more detail, but if you have the "Chemical Sweet Girl EP", then you know what to expect. I suppose the main difference is in the lack of vocals, as "Music Components" is entirely instrumental. For my money, this is no big loss. Rebotini's vocals are not strong enough to carry a song that involves a lot of singing. He's fine for some things, but whenever I hear "Shining Bright Star", I have to wonder what it would have been like with a better vocalist.



Overall, "Music Components" is an awesome release. It's worth the inflated import price - no question. Maybe someday it will see a domestic release, but I'm not holding my breath.
