CD Reviews

I guess I shouldn't buy CDs for the album cover...

"...and that's what I did here. But I really dig some things I've heard by Bryant before and when I saw that Collectable's was reissuing some of his older LPs, this looked like a good place to start. It turned out to be a good place to stop. This LP's title just doesn't work. This album doesn't groove. It never gets out of first gear. The remastering sounds like a transfer from vinyl also, as it is a little fuzzy. Collectables has done a much better job with their reissues in the last couple of years but this is not a disc I would recommend at all."

"Let me begin this by stating for the record: I love Ray Bryant. That said, this is easily the least impressive work of his I have heard. It is still wonderful music, and Ray's heart and talent still pour through, but not with the wonderful clearness of "Here's Ray Bryant" or "Live and Montreux."Why would an album called "Groove House" open so slow? This album never really grooves. If you are collecting the work of this genius, this album is a must have, but if you are just learning to appreciate Ray Bryant, pick up "All mine, and yours" first. Groove House is a confusing and inconsistant effort."
