Michael Strom | 02/08/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "This album was a complete departure from the Top 40 blue-eyed soul of the Rascals in the 60's. No "Good Lovin" or "Groovin'" here.The Rascals were a top-shelf hit maker in the 60's, recording some of the best soul music this side of Wilson Pickett.Felix Cavaliere and Dino Danelli are joined on this album by jazz-rock guitarist Buzz Feiten - adding more punch and funk to the music rather than the pop music on previous albums with Eddie Brigati and Gene Cornish.This album has some of the best "groove music" ever -- put on the 20 minute long "Peaceful World" title track on the CD player on a long car ride and just groove with it -- the perfect "car music".A personal favorite is "Getting Nearer" -- just a long funky biblical history lesson. And "Love Letter" is as soulful and funky as ever.This is a hard album to find. Probably out of print for almost 30 years. What an unexpected surprise to see it on sale here.This is a lost gem worth listening to. (I hope the cool Gaugin cover is on the import)."
