CD ReviewsI'm gonna walk out like a man. Johnny Heering | Bethel, CT United States | 07/03/2006 (3 out of 5 stars) "The Rare Breed was a New York City bar band discovered by bubblegum producers Jeffery Katz and Jerry Kasenetz. They released a single by the group called "Beg, Borrow and Steal". The song was an obvious rip off of "Louie Louie", but was still good in it's own right. Despite whatever merits the song may have had, it flopped. However, it was re-released some time later under the group name "The Ohio Express" and became a hit. The Ohio Express went on to become one of the most succesful bubblegum groups on all time, while the Rare Breed went on to become a footnote in music history. This CD collects ten songs recorded by the Rare Breed, including the hit "Beg, Borrow and Steal" (The Rare Breed version of the song is exactly the same as The Ohio Express version). Besides the hit, the songs aren't too noteworthy. "Lonely Nights" is a rip off of "World Without Love" and "Bad Girl" is a rip off of "Words of Love". The liner notes describe the Rare Breed as "a sublime amalgam of The Beatles, The Seeds, The Zombies and The Ventures". That's fairly accurate, but "sublime" is a gross exaggeration. Substitue "satisfactory" for "sublime" and it's a more accurate description."
