"Perhaps the Rank Strangers' most dynamic and musically diverse album, Target includes everything from the likes of the mellow, triple meter in 'Male Order Bride' or the minimalist sound and steady rhythms of 'Caffeine, Alcohol, and Sleep', to the driving, dissonance in the climactic title track and in Mystery Spot (a track which was conveniently excluded from their album 'Mystery Spot').
The album is, as one might expect from the band, not entirely consistent, with some tracks like 'Deaf, Dumb and Blind', or 'Can't Stop Old' seeming to fall a bit short. The sound is there, but the vocal melodies on these tracks are perhaps not as imaginative. Bozo is another track where all of the substance is there but something is missing to tie it together. Any shortfalls are made up for by Mike Wisti's inscrutable however ineffably poetic lyrics, not to mention the unrivaled guitar jams on each track..."
