CD Reviews

A Superb Dixieland CD
05/11/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have played Dixieland commercially for thirty years, and own many Dixieland CDs. This is the equal of any. It offers a group of tunes associated with the legendary Bix Beiderbecke, played in authentic arrangements by a group of talented jazz players who put together solid ensemble choruses and some dynamite solos. The CD was recorded at a 1993 concert in Hamburg, Germany in 1993, and the band rolled out one polished effort after another. This is a really impressive CD, and should be enjoyed by anyone with even a passing interest in Dixieland."
As Good As It Gets

"Randy Sandke continues to amaze me. With the release of this album and its companion album, Lost Treasures, The Rediscovered Louis and Bix, he has established himself as one of the preemeinent historians of jazz. The reverence here is palpable, and at the same time it all sounds so fresh and new. When Randy fades the cornet from Singin' The Blues into I'm Coming Virginia, you remember all over again how you came to love this music. Ken Peplowski's version of China Boy is definitive. Timeless, wonderful, and Bix is on his feet up there, applauding with the rest of us."
