"I bought this record many years ago on vinyl - except in those days it was two mini-albums. I was knocked out by Randy's singing - he has a wonderful clear voice and great vocal ability. Randy also knows his music - most of these songs are old western standards, which means that every one is a winner. These numbers were written by great songsmiths and the updated versions here do them the justice they deserve. Ever since I got rid of my record player I've been looking for these records on compact disc - and I'm still waiting, but when they finally come along it'll be worth it because they are totally unique. Which brings me on to yodelling, Randy's speciality. I know it sounds awful (especially if you're not from Texas) but this guy makes yodelling sound cool! I had never heard an EMOTIONAL YODEL until hearing Randy on 'Goodbye to Old Mexico'. Mention must also go to Brave Combo, Randy's backing band on this disc. They provide a quirky and idiosyncratic backing that is a refeshing change from the tired old C&W cliches - listen especially to 'T for Texas' which just rolls along. These guys are more used to playing waltzes, polkas, and mazurkas - and it shows! The music bounces along wonderfully. When it's available again, buy it! It will stand alone in your collection, reserve a special place for it."
