CD Reviews

70s Soul At It's Best
J. Laster | Maryland, United States | 11/09/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Memphis, TN born Randy Brown is at his best here. No questions about it! If you appreciate 70s soul, then this is it! Brown's 1978 release, "Welcome To My Room" easily and quickly carved a place for him in "true" R & B history! All and all, this music is wonderful. It's the type cd that you allow to repeat itself over and over. Excellent sound. This music takes me back to Tallahassee, Florida and then radio station WANM 1070-AM. With only 10,000 watts and armed with DJs such as Joe Bullard, Chico The Virgo and Jerome Swain, WANM let us all know who Randy Brown was! The music on this cd is flawless from start to finish! It's easily understood and is very easy to groove to. Many thanks to the people responsible for getting this music pressed into cd format! It was long overdue. Joe Bullard, I love you, wherever you are! You showed me that good radio is priceless! You played lots of good music, especially Randy Brown. As for this cd, 5 stars all the way. Buy it! Play it! Relive it! Enjoy it!"
Vintage 70's Soul
Christopher I. Walker | Clitheroe, Lancashire | 09/09/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I owned this album back in the late 1970's & together with the Peabo Bryson album "Reaching for the sky" it was never off the turntable. "Welcome to my room" oozes class from start to finish. Every song is a highlight with Brown utilising his vocal talents to the max delivering smooth sophisticated soul. This album was made for those quiet nights by the fire with good wine and good company. Vintage 70's soul, I only wish more material from this artist was made available on CD!"
Pure Soulful Bliss!

"How can you add to or top the previous reviews for this album. "Favourite album in 42 years?" A bold statement, but a believeable one as this album is the REAL DEAL. This must be one of the best soul albums of all time, so it's amazing how it hasn't crossed over into the mainstream, but fortunately time serves all great art. This record fits nicely next to Marvin Gaye, LeRoy Hutson, Teddy Pendergrass, Leon Ware et al. In other words, soul masters.
In terms of soulfulness, this album has it all - something for lovers of deep soul (I'd Rather Hurt Myself), 70s modern soul (Always In The Mood) and rare groove (Love Is All We Need) - all in one package! I read somewhere that many soul fans hail the song 'Too Little In Common' as the greatest of all time, it's easy to see why - real honest deep soul sung from the heart, soul doesn't come much deeper than this! So if you don't have or know this album just get it now and reap the rewards of owning one of most beautiful records ever made. Nuff said!"
