Synopsis

Album Description
Import-only compilation from the Punk icons features tracks pulled from the under-rated second half of their career. During the mid-to-late '80s, the Ramones continued to release Punk classics even when much of their audience had switched their attention to New Wave and keyboard-dominated music of the era. The latter Ramones material did feature bigger and beefier production than their early albums, but the songs were always just as engaging. This collection features the best of those final years ('Pet Semetary', 'Poison Heart', 'I Don't Want To Grow Up', etc) plus live recordings of eight of their early nuggets like 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker', 'Surfin' Bird', 'Blitzkrieg Bop and more. 18 tracks. Disky.

"This is the first Ramones CD I bought. The first 10 songs are good, but the live versions aren't that good. And that's a shame considering that their best songs, including Blitzkrieg Bop, Sheena is a Punk Rocker, and Teenage Lobotomy are only in Live version on this CD.

You'd be much better off getting "Loud fast Ramones: Their toughest hits." That's a great compilation for any Ramones fan, and it contains better songs. This compilation is very passable."

"THIS IS NOT A BEST OF ALBUM AT ALL. Certainly no place for a new Ramones fan to start & a disgrace to diehard fans like myself. What is labelled as the "best" on this album (though they are some of their best songs) are actually all poor live versions from around the time Joey was having problems singing 'cuz he was so sick. He does all right on some of the songs but on most you hear long pauses where he was catching his breath & you can hear C.J. singing too loudly behind him. Anyone who loves his brilliant vocals on "Surfing Bird" will be really saddened by the live version on here. If you want a great Ramones live album go for "It's Alive" for when they were in their prime or "Greatest Hits Live" for a good later document. There's nothing wrong with the actual studio recordings on here, all great songs like the overlooked "Anxiety" & "Ignorance Is Bliss" or even Joey's version of "Somebody To Love" with Traci Lords. The only problem someone might have with the studio selections could be that they're all from their much later albums (which are great, but most people consider the earlier stuff to be their best). So, if you're looking for a best of album for the Ramones, you should get "Ramones Mania" ASAP. That's the album that got me hooked in high school & has lead me to become a Ramoniac. In fact, this collection is an insult to the Ramones. Whoever put this out in The Netherlands actually had the nerve to mis-spell "Blitzkrieg Bop" (to Blitzkrieg Pop, what the?!) & to credit "Cretin Hop" to Jagger/Richards & "Rockaway Beach" to Grace Slick in the liner notes! WHAT THE!? WHOA! I guess they got really confused by the fact that there's a couple cover songs on here & just ran with it. Apparently these people were non-fans to the point of disgrace. I feel bad for the Ramones fans in The Netherlands getting this [..] marketed to them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRAVESTY!"
