"I have long championed the genius that is R. Stevie Moore. Another year, another label and another compilation but no complaints from me.
This in some respects is the perfect intoduction to Stevie; The songs are generally from a reasonably compact time frame from his 400 plus albums and also tend to focus on his more pop oriented material.
The mastering has worked very well bringing out more detail on 30 to 40 year old tapes highlighting Stevie's vocal and instrumental prowess although some limitations are more evident but what the heck; pay particular attention to his acoustic guitar, drums and bass work.
I have all of these songs on their original albums and there is little overlap with previously issued compilations and to hear these songs out of their original context also yields new pleasures.
The sleeve notes are excellent and one can hope that Cherry Red will delve further into Stevie's tape box. Who knows we may finally get reissues of other Stevie classics like "What's The Point!!??" and "Glad Music".
Ignore at your peril."
Interesting but

"First, i am a big R Stevie Moore fan. I discouvered his music in youtube where lots of videos are put by autosam (just look for R Stevie Moore in youtube, you'll find all the vids).
Second, i have two cds, Nevertheless Optimistic and Contact Risk. My opinion is that get those in stread of this Cherry red collection. I think the songs chosen here are not so good (with some good exceptions, some also in those two records i told you before), but overall, this is in my honest opinion pretty lame and within more than 400 original songs recorded by this songcrafting genious, there are plenty of better songs. But good try by Cherry red, hope this is just the first from several compilations to come out now, hope so, go on Cherry Red and make better second time. Just to remember:
Cherry red comp 3 stars
contact risk and Nevertheless... 5 stars
hoe i had helped someone, long live R Stevie Moore!"
