CD Reviews

A classic experimental rock album.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Tis record sounds nothing like Quasi. Few of the songs could ever be played live by the band but the album is still completely awesome. This is a collection of songs that Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss recorded in their house over a period of a couple years. There is hardly any of the now trademark Quasi sound of the distorted harpsichord and most of the songs lack any real structure. Standouts iclude the incredible "Mammon"(an amazing balladesque song with just Sam and his piano) and "Monkey, Mirror"(an almost psychadelic rock song with a dreamy keyboard sample floating in and out). This is probably the only place you will ever hear these songs so grab it and get ready to be blown away by some weird stuff from one of the best bands around."
A CD worth having

"This CD will be a great adquisition for both newcomers and fans of Quasi. If you're a newcomer to Quasi, this beautiful CD -just take a look to the CD cover- will give you a nice taste of that wonderful and inventive duo of Sam Coomes and Janet Weiss (check Janet's drumming: she's a hell of a drummer. Remember Bonham from Led Zeppelin? Well, listen carefully to Weiss' drumming again). Believe me that after you hear this, you will order all their recordings. For fans of Quasi, this compilation of early recordings will help tracing their sound, origins and developments of it, besides enjoying it as hell. And that's another reason for getting this CD: we should be grateful to them and their music. Think how nice it is to have Quasi in those Britney Spears' or Andrew WK's days. Think if we didn't have them. Man, what a cold shower, isn't it? So, check this out. Enjoy."
