Precious Goes Pop
k. lane | Florida, USA | 10/10/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The debut and only release of Brit girl group Precious, the self-titled album is packed with a fierce collection of pop gems, with a dip of R&B flare. The girls debut single was the Spice-esque nugget "Say It Again". This track was a push in the public eye, as it was that year's UK Eurovision entry, a contest which has included pop stars like Olivia Newton-John, ABBA, Celine Dion, and Lulu. That single was the group's sole top ten single, it was later followed into the top twenty by the Britney Spears inspired track "Rewind". Following this, the next single, their very best release "It's Gonna Be My Way" just scraped top thirty. A stomping R&B number, it's easily their best song. The group's last single was reminiscent of the previous "Rewind", the bold "New Beginning" was an incredibly catchy pop track, and was the end of the girls on the singles chart, bombing out at a lowly fifty-something position. The album was soon released, and was the nail in the coffin of their record label, shifting a tiny number of copies, despite a great assortment of songs. The best of the album tracks would be the disco stormer "Stand Up", the funky "Ain't It Funny How", and the Diane Warren penned "I Count The Minutes". The album is great, and the girls did have loads of potential, but after their lack of success, the group split. Several of the girls are still entertainers, Jenny Frost became a replacement for Kerry Katona in Atomic Kitten, just at the dawn of their success, and the lead singer Louise Rose has done a track with D-Influence for his D-Vas project, a cover of Ani DiFranco's "32 Flavors". Despite a lack of the commercial success, Precious were a really well put together pop act, who should have done alot better. At least this album is left to the girl's name."
They're not the Spice Girls!

"While most people may know Precious as the group Atomic Kitten's Jenny Frost "used to be in", the 5 piece UK act was for a brief period poised for huge success. With their debut single and Eurovision entry "Say it again" the girls immediately hit the UK top ten. However, after a year of issuing a string of moderate performing singles and not quite catching on in the public's eye, it was time to call it a day. Which is a shame actually as the album features a fantastic mix of dance/pop/and RnB. Stand out tracks are "count the minutes", the britney-esque "rewind", and PWL inspired "stand up." This album includes all their single releases and enhanced videos. Fans of the PWL or Cheiron sound won't be disappointed-something for everyone. REcommended!!"
