CD Reviews

Better than Pots and Shots?
Andy | MA | 01/27/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"...Maybe. If not, it's still a really solid album. Following their tradition, the first song (Potshot is Coming) is a catchy intro track. "Be Alive" and "My Way" follow beautifully. Both are catchy, though a bit heavier than previous Potshot (Maybe that's because the 'new' Potshot has entirely new members, save for Ryoji.) That brings us to Ryoji: His vocals aren't any more coherent than they were. Still, the lyrics are, to paraphrase another review, simple but good. Just about every song on here is a direct hit, except Track Eight. "Tell Me Why" is a veritable screamfest. "Let's turn up our amps and go nuts!" Fortunately, halfway through, it unpredictably becomes trad ska trumpet and trombone solos. It sounds like, at the end, Chucky and Michy switch instruments. A barrel of laughs. After a bunch of really awesome songs, (like the short and sweet "It's Real,") Potshot treats us to some awesome live songs. "Every Dawn" is one of the coolest live songs I've ever heard. "Mexico," unfortunately, misses the mark of the original. It's well done, but missing the trombone solo. Oh well. All seriousness aside, this is well worth the fifteen or so bucks you'll be shelling out."
