CD Reviews

Overlooked But GREAT Pointer Sisters Album!
gassy goon | 06/22/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This Pointer Sisters album is filled with some great songs , and of course singing! The CD starts off with some slammin' dance songs, and has many inspired songs that rate as some of the Pointer's best album tracks!

" MOONLIGHT DANCING " sung by June Pointer [ how she is missed ], is just an amazing, hypnotic song propelled by percussion & June's breathy vocal, and Anita & Ruth's backing. An overlooked gem that should have been a huge hit. Bette Midler covered it to lesser effect on an album. " I WILL BE THERE " is just an awesome pop/soul/dance song that is the zenith of what a pop song should be, and Anita brings this stunning shimmering song home! It should have been huge too! Ruth's solo on the ballad " I'M IN LOVE " is soothing & soulful, and was a hit single on the R&B chart. Those are my favorites on this release.

This is an GREAT CD that has been overlooked , but rates as one of the Pointer's strongest albums. It definitely has more of an urban music sound, with the influences of Prince , yet still in the R&B/dance/rock & pop sound that they are known for. Worth hearing & owning if you missed it the first time around, as there are many great songs like PRIDE, MY LIFE , and as the title says, the slammin' funk/dance frenzy of SERIOUS SLAMMIN' , SHUT UP AND DANCE and HE TURNED ME OUT. Sounds really fresh today. There are many surprises on this GREAT CD! It could have been as big as " BREAKOUT " if RCA Records had promoted it.

This was the last Pointer Sisters album produced by Richard Perry. The Pointers & him made a great team, and a stream of hits, starting with the " ENERGY " album & worldwide Top 10 hit " FIRE " in 1978. This final album together is a fitting example of their chemistry, & the Pointer Sister's special magic. It's Anita, Ruth & June Pointer together that is worth a listen & worth owning."
Underrated Album
