CD Reviews

A must have for everyone!

"This CD has a mix of just about everything any music fan would want and needs! I couldnt turn it off for about the first 10 times through and I still love to sit back and enjoy through all of the songs that make the CD so good. From the opening of Too Damn Loud until the heartbreaking end of Then We'll See, this band is has got it going for them and everything in between."

"Podstar is a four piece punky power pop band that has put together one of the most refreshing albums this year and this album was recorded when they were all high school seniors. It has all the makings of a teen love movie sound track the kind of tunes that can get a good concert rolling. The 12 songs are short, sharp and catchy. This young band authors powerful power pop music like pros. They claim Built To Spill and Guided By Voices as influences, but they have a style uniquely their own--musically solid and recorded with care. The songs speak to the youth of today with titles like "I Don't Remember (Your Name)," "Too Damn Loud" and "All Turned Off". Guitar playing by Longbottom and Swenson prooves their musical giftedness, and Hawk's bass and vocals push the limits. Redmon's on drums must be a sight to see as he pushes the beat. The first album by this young band includes hard rocking songs (Too Damn Loud and It's Not the Radio), moderate tempo tunes like Watching Your Dreams" and "Something Else Entirely" dual vocals by Hawk and Longbottom that are full of teen angst and lost love. The particularrly quirky "Story" by Swenson has the makings of a teen anthem and signature piece that changes up the album midstream. The last song on the track, "Then We'll See," emphasizes the true range of this muscially talented troupe, a la Guided By Voices. It is an acoustic track that features the Turina Quartet, strings from high school orchestra class. These young women play way beyond their years and Hawk's arrangement of this piece is superb. The orignial tracks authored by Cameron Hawk and Longbottom fill most of the album with guitarist Aaron Swenson contributing "Story"; all three add vocals. J.P. Redmon plays hard hitting, stuttering drums. Recorded in Eurdora KS at RedHouse Studio, producer Ed Rose guided and superbly classy effort. The Noisome Label has found another talented young group to follow Ultimate Fakebook, now signed with Epic Records. There is every indication that Podstar plans to take their music all the way. While other bands come and go, this group is heading into their 5th year together with no signs of letting up. Buy it and catch a concert if you can."

"This is one great album. These boys rock out with the best of them. Full of great melodies and tales of teenage love. Check them out."
