Amazing Debut
Blues Lover | New York | 03/20/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I am looking at the availability of this cd and I see it's available for like $1.50 used. It may be the best $1.50 you ever spend in your life. My gosh ... this is a gem of music that was an amazing debut for the Pistoleros. Released in 1997 on Hollywood Records, a small label based in New York City, the music is great ten years later. The title track, Hang On To Nothing, got air play, but the disc features 11 more foot stomping, head bopping tunes all with great lyrics, guitar riffs, drum beats, a snappy horn section. If you remotely like Los Lonely Boys, these guys were them 10 years ago, albeit not as overpoweringly "electric."

The singing belongs to the brother tandem of Lawrence and Mark Zubia. Gary Smith keeps the beat going on drums. Thomas Laufenberg on guitar. Household names these guys are not, in fact the band might not even be together any longer. That's a shame.

You will read review after review that suggest you make a purchase. You absolutely can not go wrong with this.

Great follow up album from the former Chrimeras out of Tempe
Blues Lover | 07/27/1998
(4 out of 5 stars)

"These guys were always my favorite band to see live at Wong's in Tempe and this album really captures that Tempe sound. They had to change their name from the Chimeras because it turns out there was already a European band with that name. If you can find the Chimeras debut CD, grab it because it's a treasure. Hang on to Nothing is full of good driving, upbeat music and a couple of solid ballads and Lawrence's vocal style is always worth a listen. See these guys live if you ever get the chance!"
