CD Reviews

Tasty medicine for your dancefloor ailments!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was relatively surprised to see this album on the shelves, as I had no idea a follow-up to Electrocaine was even being worked on. France is certainly exporting some fine, cerebral dance music lately (Rinocerose, Funky Derrick)...here's to hoping they keep sending us music like this. Pills' Musicsoldia expands upon the dark, house-style beats featured in their last album, while at the same time giving us a deeper insight to the groups' musical tastes. There's a bit of everything in here; funk, house, electro, all with an oddly appropriate goth flavor. The improvised intro rap flows smoothly into the ultra-funky anthem "I Preach to Party", which sets the tone for the rest of the album...dark and aggressive, but not too harsh on the ears. This is one of those albums you really need to listen to as a whole (like Dubtribe Soundsystem), not as a collection of singles...but if I were to pick a standout track, I would have to go with #3, "April Sun". Definitely some aural treats here....highly recommended."
