This CD, which has been available since the late '80s, features a Brazilian pianist who teaches in Arizona. Caio Pagano plays Beethoven well enough so that I would very much enjoy hearing him in recital. He is appropriately powerful in the Waldstein Sonata, and keeps his pedal down at the beginning of the Rondo the way Beethoven tells him to do. His Op. 10, No. 3, is also well played, with attention to Beethoven's details and good musical impulse. But these aren't the best Beethoven performances ever recorded, and they would have to be for me to recommend a 48.5- minute CD. --Leslie Gerber
