Mostly Dull

"Brother of the very slightly better known F.X. Scharwenka, the music by Philipp on this disc is mostly rather dull. The first & last pieces strike me as second rate, overly sentimental Wagner clone music. The longer Arcadia Suite is somewhat better; a few interestings ideas and nice melodies, but also some long stretches of dull, repetative space fillers. If you're truly desparate to hear something you haven't heard before (as I was when I ordered this cd) go ahead and buy it. Otherwise, save your money & wait for something better."
