"Someone has to review this one, so I am doing it now, although I might not be the right one to do it, since I am a great fan of Bernstein and will rate anything he plays 5 stars because of his wonderful clear tone, swinging lines, and that he is an honest player, no hidding behind a "flashy technic" all this added with a heavy blues feeling. The Grant Green influence is very obvious on this CD, and on the blues called "Sideburns" you really can hear Greens impact on Bernstein,same thing with "This is the start of something new". Greens version can be heard on the CD from 1965 with Larry Young and Hank Mobley. This was Bernsteins first recording as a leader, he has certainly grown as a player since then, but he was already then a world class player All songs on this CD are well performed,and Brad Mehldaus playing is as always outstanding and very very subtle and swinging."
