CD Reviews

Great bluegrass from a man that should be well known
02/28/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have had the chance to see Pete Wernick live on several occasions. Along with his wive Joan (Noadi), they have introduced me to several great bluegrass bands (The Bluegrass Patriots and The High Plains Traditon; If you don't know who Glenn Zankey is, you don't know much about good Colorado bluegrass!) from Colorado. I have caught their act at the Niwot Grange, and to be honest, I have always enjoyed it. This album, which is a perfect example of what bluegrass can be, features Tim O'Brien, who is on many more popular bluegrass albums, for those of you who need a "Nashville recognition" for an "authentic" feel. While this album does contain some songs that feel a little "jazzy," I think those songs show the versatility of the banjo. Look at The Live Five and other Pete Wernick projects, and you will soon see why he is called "Dr. Banjo!"
This album is well worth the time and money. I have owned a CD of this album for over ten years, and I still listen to frequently. I bought a copy of it when I was in my teens, and now I am in my mid-twenties, and the album means more to me than it did then.
"An Old Box Of Memories" can make you feel nostalgic, "When Snow Falls On My Foggy Mountain Home" will make you want find a sure fire love, and a wonderful version of the classic "Cindy" will make you want to find your "Fire!" This album is worth the time! Hell, if I still enjoy it after ten years, it has to be worth while; This album is worth the money. When I play it for friends, they ask where to get it. Understand what the hidden pockets of this country are about, and spend a few bucks, it will be worth you time."
