CD Reviews

Not the best in the series, but still not bad!

"Dark Side of the Moog IV is a very good album. Both slow, and fast transitions between ambient, electronica, and dance sounds throughout the CD manage to be completely seamless, as I've come to expect from Pete Namlook, Klaus Schulze, and Bill Laswell.Being a big fan of all three of these artists, and the DSOM series so far, I immediately bought this when I found it available. Unfortunately, it wasn't easy to find. -- Regardless, the CD was worth what I paid and the hunting! Bone-chilling ambience one track, hair-raising industrial drum machines the next! Now, for the dirt. I wasn't exactly thrilled with this album, compared to what I got from DSOM V, but I still catch myself coming back to it.This CD is a must for long drives, quiet evenings at home, or 'repeat' on the CD player, overnight. Can't offer anything less than five stars for this one!"

"Some of Klaus Schulze's best material was done with Pete Namlook (and Bill Laswell) The "Dark side of the Moog" series takes on variations on Pink Floyd themes. Interject Techno with New Age and you get a spacey feel with a driving beat. DSOM 4 is variations on Pink Floyd's first album, but takes the themes in a completely different direction. To me, the best of the series was DSOM I. If you like pure synth (with no element of pop), you should like this. If all you listen to is top 100, it's not for you. Great music to listen to with the headphones on and the lights off. What happened to your stress?"
