CD Reviews

A Great CD

(5 out of 5 stars)

""If your a fan of the beautiful music that radio stations once played, then this CD is for you" reads the liner notes, and it couldn't be more true. These are custom recordings (meaning they were recorded exclusively for broadcast on FM radio stations) which have never been available for purchase until now. Parfait Records has located original first generation tapes of sessions recorded in the 80s by Perry La Marca and beautifully remastered them, the result being an audiophile's dream. Even though not all of these songs are personal favorites of mine, they are presented here in excellent arrangements by a master orchestrator in a variety of styles. Some are purely instrumental, some have intermittent vocal refrains, and some feature a full chorus led by the great vocal talents of Ron Hicklin and Sally Stevens. I'm giving this 5 stars because the sound quality is perfect and there are excellent liner notes giving background information about the artist and label. Altogether this is a fine package, and I hope that it will be the first of many from Parfait Records. If you love easy listening/beautiful music, look no further - 57 minutes of the best of it are right here on this disc."
Easy listening.

"This CD is being promoted as the sound you might remember if you heard 'easy listening' FM radio stations in the past. It is a good example of this because it was recorded in the eighties by Churchill Productions who produced intrumental music for the FM radio market. The sixteen tracks include some strong melodic titles, 'Arthur's theme', 'Ebb tide', 'Can't take my eyes off of you' for instance but I found the electronic and rhythm instruments just too prominent throughout and this spoilt the CD for me.

If you want to capture the sound of the best of 'easy' FM I would recommend listening to Stardust by Robert Mandell conducting the Melachrino Strings. A relaxing sixty-eight minutes of really lush strings with a hardly noticeable rhythm section. There are twenty-one tracks of evergreens including wonderful versions of 'Blue moon', 'Stardust' and 'You are too beautiful'. Mandell's treatment of this last title is superb.

***Have a glance over my Listmania on 'easy listening' CDs."

"I was made aware of this Cd by other members of an outstanding Beautiful Instrumentals and Vocals Group on Yahoo, and I am frankly in their debt. This is just a fantasic CD, from the first selection through the very last note, and is without a doubt one of the most thoroughly pleasant in my rather large collection.

The treatments of some very popular tunes from the seventies, eighties and earlier are just matchless. While some will remind you of Ray Conniff or The Laurie Bower Singers, and even Percy Faith, Perry LaMarca's arrangements of the sixteen songs are still uniquely his. I have encouraged buyers literally across the world to purchase CDs and LPs, and I have never led anyone astray with a recommendation. Simply put, if you love music, you will LOVE this CD!"
