Permanent Pleasure!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Permanent Vacation have always really understood that misty eyed Balaeric and European spirit with an ace roster featuring some of the finest young producers working within this field. Alongside Italians Do It Better, Tirk and the Lo label, modern retro-futuristic disco seems to be in good hands with these guys. The first disc kicks off with Lullabies In The Dark's 'Iridium', a properly heart warming balaeric cut that should soothe you into the groove for the Todd Terje remix of Dølle Jølle's 'Balaeric Incarnation'. Elsewhere there's the fantastic Junior Boys remix of Sally Shapiro's 'Jackie Jackie' (try getting that out of your head after one listen!), a brilliant refix of 40 Thieves 'Don't Turn It Off' from disco uberlord Brennan Green and IDIB's Invisible Conga People remixing Woolfy vs Projections 'Return Of Starlight'. As if that's not enough, the second disc ripples with more sexy disco remixes from Hercules and Love Affair, to authentic label gems from Bostro Pesepeo, and more essential remix business from Superpitcher and Holy Ghost! Recommended!

Giorgio Moroder's revolutionary electronic sex-groove odysseys with Donna Summer planted Munich firmly in the eye of the disco hurricane, creating a sound as influential as Kraftwerk. The repercussions are still felt today, particularly via the underground dance music phenomenon known as cosmic disco. DJ Benjamin Frohlich has spearheaded Munich's re-emergence on the disco map, organising parties and running the Play-Records shop. In 2006 he started the Permanent Vacation label with Tom Dioly, one of the customers, beginning a deluge of top notch cosmic goodness which has provided Ibiza with one of its essential soundtracks.

This compilation gathers tracks so far only released on 12"; a sublime, melon-friendly feast of deep disco grooves, intergalactic washes and gorgeous electronic melodies, often topped with insidious vocals (such as the two honchos making their production debut as Permanent Vacation, elevated by Kathy Diamond's sultry tones). Other names include the lustrous Lullabies In The Dark, Sally Shapiro, Bostro Pesopeo, Woolfy Vs Projections and Steve Yanko, who cheekily plant the spoken intro from Beefheart's Yellow Brick Road amid the euphoric hallucinodisco of Prostitute Pink. With its panoramic realignment of enough intoxicating disco elements to confuse a mirror ball, this new Munich machine have produced a sublime summer soundtrack.

Double CD collection of tracks released on Permanent Vacation in the past few years and forthcoming single releases. Including productions by Sally Shapiro, Lullabies In The Dark, Panthers, Woolfy vs Projections and others. Remixes from Tensnake, Holy Ghost!, Brennan Green, Todd Terje. The label's latest release, the compilation "PERMANENT VACATION-SELECTED LABEL WORKS N.1" now once again comprises a selection of singles that have only been available on vinyl so far. Two packed CDs will feature Permanent Vacation's greatest hits, such as DOLLE JOLLE's "BALEARIC INCARNATION" remixed by TODD TERJE, or the SUPERPITCHER interpretation of LULLABIES IN THE DARK, as well as tracks that haven't been released so far. Last but not least, the compilation will present the production debut of the label heads Bioly and Fröhlich, who have recorded the song "TIC TOC" under their project name Permanent Vacation. "TIC TOC" features disco diva no.1 Kathy Diamond, which was incidentally produced in the same record studio, in which already the "Queen of Munich Disco", DONNA SUMMER, recorded her songs, closing the circle between the past and the future of Munich disco.
