"There is a lot to admire about this album if Japanese Techno-Pop is something you enjoy. I do like this style of music and it has a long tradition stretching back to the 1970s in Japan with Yellow Magic Orchestra. There are some tracks on "Triangle" that would not be out of place on an imaginary YMO album, if Yukihiro Takahashi's and Akiko Yano's vocals were replaced by the girls from Perfume. I have a fantasy - I would love to see a reformed YMO fronted by Perfume on a world tour!



The music here is, of course, very much in the realms of Techno-Pop and sythesizers are always unashamedly to the fore. There are some tips of the hat to various styles of music within that genre, particularly "Picopop" (music based on old 8 bit technology, championed by Japanese groups like YMCK and others). However, most of the music on this album is of a much more robust nature and "Triangle" sounds mighty on a good sound system.



Perfume have been described as the "Yellow Magic Orchestra" of the 21st Century and I think there is some truth in that.
