CD Reviews

Southern Soul for the 90's
ross wichman | hays, ks United States | 01/22/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"As good as southern soul got in the 90's. The recording was crisp, clean and uncluttered. The bass guitar popped, the drums snapped and the guitars were soulful. The band found a groove and held onto it throughout the session. Percy was in good voice. He sounded involved and like the 40 year + professional that he is. That's what you look for in a good soul album. Percy delivers. By the way, when I listened to this cd for the first time (winter of 2003), I was shocked by how similar Percy Sledge' s voice and style on this cd iss to John Hiatt's at his best. This is good stuff."
Everlasting soul
Aussie Soulman | Melbourne, Australia | 08/10/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"In recent years we have been blessed with some magnificent returns to form by R&B/Soul legends -- Howard Tate, Solomon Burke and Al Green head the list. But it was a decade ago that I chanced on this CD and was stunned and delighted to find one of the Olympians of sixties soul -- the man who blessed us with When A Man Loves A Woman and It Tears Me Up -- had resurfaced. Better still that voice was still heavenly, still capable of sending a tremor of pleasure up your spine; the song choice was impeccable; the backing top-notch. Somehow though, I suspect, this one has been allowed to slip under too many people's radar. Anyone who loves classic deep soul and emotion-drenched singing (from the soul)should track this down. You owe it to yourself."
One of my very favorites!

"The writing on these 11 songs is incredible and Percy delivers them with all the soul and feeling you could hope for!"
