Synopsis

Album Description
The Peddlers were labeled - somewhat unfairly - as a middle of the road outfit, possibly because Roy Phillips Blues-drenched voice and the trio's line-up came off with a sophisticated jazz edge. Also their 1968 CBS album 'Three In A Cell' was for many years a charity shop staple, suggesting that its popularity at the time had been followed by exile into the world of the unfashionable. But it was 'Suite London' which showcased a style of atmospherics on the slow tracks that saw their version of Alan Lerner's 'On A Clear Day' being sampled by freak funk outfit and London club pioneers Sandals for their 1992 single 'Nothing'. However it was the strange combination of The Peddlers with The London Philharmonic Orchestra, recorded as their final album with the band's original line-up, that was the true find. 19 tracks. Mercury.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"A good friend of mine painstakingly transfered the original LP onto CD for me which took him hours, printed out the info and then said " Now watch them just re-release this one onto CD"

..and here we are.

I have fond memories of watching this trio back in London during the late 60s appearing on ITV/BBC as guests on "The Lulu Show", Tom Jones and even Val Doonican's programme.

They were the coolest, sophisticated musicians around, bohemian looking with dark glasses and black polo neck shirts.

Roy Philips, like Gary Brooker, has that Ray Charles-inflected vocal style and is a fabulous keyboard player.

This is a wonderful concept album that is reminiscent of the "Swingin' London" days of the late 60s-early 70s. Most tracks fade into each other

and theirs a fabulous jazz-Bach feel to it all, sort of like Jacques Loussier in places."
