CD Reviews

WITHOUT A DOUBT, #1 OF ALL 72...B SIDE IS UNBELIEVABLE
anthony gualtieri | philadelphia, pa United States | 08/18/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I'll keep it short because these get boring-- i own all 72 shows, this is the best of all of'em.... no huge sound problems (which happens on most shows, unfortunately).... the version of I Got Id is improved, a nice change (the only version of the song i'll listen to), and unbelievably strong. Stone's Mankind is great, and the version of Insignificance is probably the best they've done live. Porch has a longer than usual instrumental bridge, with Eddie getting the crowd involved, and a strong Ledbetter close. Yeah, every review says each show is the best, and i did not see this show, only the Philly shows, but this is the only show of the 72 that never leaves my CD changer. Agree?"
Best Set of US Tour - Pittsburgh Last Night of First Leg
M. Arner | PA, USA | 02/28/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"With 48 double cds from the European and first leg of the American tour. This is by far one of the best sets. It is the last night of the first leg of the US Tour and the Band did not let the crowd down at all. If you plan on getting any of the live cds get this one It is guaranteed to please with plenty of old, new and rare tracks. But any time you have a show that is the first or last in a tour you are guaranteed for a few surprises this delivers plenty. The Pittsburgh set includes Rare tracks such as Wash & Crazy Mary and culminates with the encore of The Who's Classic Baba O'Riley. Also the interlude in Daughter contains a rare cover of Sonic Youths "Bull in the Heather" Listen to Stone gossards vocals on the rarely played live "Mankind". I have been lucky enough to be a member of the ten club and have had this Cd for almost a month and it never gets old. With so many live shows to choose from Choose this ine you won't go wrong!!!"
Hands down the best show from the first leg!! A Classic!

"The tone for this show is set from the opening chords of the rare opener 'Even Flow'. McCready's solo is frenetic.Parts of this show will undoubtedly end up on the tour DVD (April release). This was the third show I attended on the first leg and the only one of those where the crowd was notified that the show was being filmed.Highlights from the first disc are 'Light Years' and 'daughter' which features Eddie leaving the stage during the song's extended jam ending to fetch lyrics for the tag - Sonic Youth's 'Bull in Heather'. The song had not been tagged for years before this show. Another rarity. The second disc is chocked full of great stuff from the rarely played 'Mankind' to 'Crazy Mary,' the band trying to remember the chords to 'I Got You' which hasn't been played since Verona on the European leg and the closing sing-a-long of 'Baba' played with the remaining members of Sonic Youth. The crowning acheivement of this show is 'Wash' which includes Eddie inviting a girl from the lawn carrying an umbrella up on stage. After talking to the girl Eddie realizes that she has been to over 100 shows and has been carrying this umbrella with WASH written on it. He sits her on the stage as the band plays the song which hasn't been on a setlist since the early days of the band and tells the crowd that this is the last time they will do something like this. This is why Pearl Jam is the best live band in the world."
