Synopsis

Product Description
Paula Atherton is a singer/songwriter/woodwind player hailing from the NY area. Atherton, whose vocal style has been compared to Minnie Ripperton, has also been described as a smoother David Sanborn and funkier Candy Dulfer on alto sax. She has toured the world including Japan, Monte Carlo, Portugal, the US and Canada. Paula has performed with an array of artists such as legendary jazz pianist Hank Jones (Blue Note, NYC), pop star Michael Bolton, and has jammed with guitarist George Benson and the late pianist, John Hicks. Paula has also shared the stage with such notable musicians as Chuck Loeb, Johnny Pacheco, Patti Austin, Tito Puente, and Najee. Atherton s freshman album Let Me Inside Your Love debuted on the national contemporary jazz charts in 04. In 2006, a cut from Paula s debut album, I Long For Your Love , was released on Warner Europe as part of the wildly popular compilation titled Ladies of Jazz . Natalie Cole, Candy Dulfer and Eliane Elias were also featured on the album. Film and television have played a vital role in Paula s career. She has had musical excursions on Rachel Ray, Today, and Good Morning America with Michael Bolton. Paula played a role as a bandleader for the Lifetime Network show Girl s Night Out for 30 episodes, and wrote the musical score for the independent film The Definition of Insanity in 2002. In 2006 Paula performed for two fundraisers for Hillary Clinton s presidential campaign. This past June (09) Paula s sophomore album, Groove With Me, was released and immediately made an impact on several contemporary jazz radio charts including Groove Jazz, Jazz Week, BDS/Billboard, Smoothjazz.com, and Smooth Indie Star. Thus far three singles have emerged at smooth jazz radio; the slow latin groove of Winds Of Change, the sax and trumpet duet on You re All I Need To Get By featuring Greg Adams, and the funky Block Party, featuring Chieli Minucci from Special EFX. Bill Heller, keys for the Rippingtons, also co-produces and plays on a track. Send Down An Angel, the first vocal single from Groove with Me, hit the a/c charts in February 2010 on FMQB. As of 5/13/2010. Send Down An Angel is #9 on FMQB a/c with 899 spins. Onaje Allan Gumbs (piano/keys) and Stanley Banks (bass-George Benson) performed on this track. Groove with Me was released on June 16, 2009 on Dream On Records, and distributed by IMM (Innovative Multi Media).

CD Reviews

Paula Atherton Is A Super Singer, Musician, and Lady
Bobby Susser | USA | 10/01/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've worked with Paula on a few of my children's albums. She's always great. There is one thing you can always depend upon, Paula's great performance. Whether she's playing sax, singing lead, or doing a background vocal, she's right there all the time. When I heard this album, "Groove With Me", I thought that I had not given her enough credit. I always thought of her as a super singer, musician, and lady, but this album proves her to be more. She's got that X factor that you cannot quite define, but you know it's there, and it's wonderful. I sure hope you are lucky enough to hear Paula on this CD or in person. If you do, you'll know what I'm talking about."
Something for Everyone!
J. H. Hannen | New York, New York | 06/17/2009

"This CD is amazing period! Paula is a very centered musician with boundless talent and energy. Here she offers up a very ecelectic mix, showing off her formidable skills on flute, sax and vocals. There is something for everyone on this disc...smooth jazz, latin, funk and an excellent cover of Ashford & Simpson's "You're All I Need To Get By." Buy or download this CD...put it on your iPod...play it in your car...grip the steering wheel tight...let the wind blow back your hair...you will be transported! The all-star band behind, and all around her, is the perfect compliment to Paula's musical and singing voices. I love this CD. It is uplifting, thoughtful and fun!
