Synopsis

Album Description
The first release from the legendary front man from the popular Cleveland group Molkie Cole in 11 years! This CD has something for everyone: Classics for the die-hard Paul Pope fans to the new tracks that will impress both young and less young. 9-) Paul Pope's record label, Burbank Records issued a release quoting record company President, Dylan D. Mattina as saying: "This release is a milestone for both Paul Pope and for us here at Burbank Records who have been with Paul since the early part of his solo caeer. LONE SHOE is a new, fresh excercise of good-time, FUN, and heartfelt rock & Roll music. Paul Pope knows how to rock the house and how to make us cry. The first track "Bombs" is dedicated to American men & women in uniform. Written during the Gulf War is is a poignant look at what was is. Classics like "Miss Understood", "Dog Dance", and "Broken Hearts" will break wide open on the Pop/Rock stations as will a never before released track "You Can't Hide(In the shade)". Paul has seen fit to give his fans, old & new a taste of this consunnate showman's library by including live cuts of "Midnight Moses"(The Alex Harvey classic), "Lookin' Back"(recorded live in Buffalo NY), and "Winter", his signature song. The r! eal excitment on this CD is the haunting opening chords of "Untitled", written by Pope about the untimely death of his father when Paul was just 15 years old. The song is an epic triumph of sound and imagery".

CD Reviews

What Pop/Rock should be in the 21st century
Dylan Mattina | SoCal | 12/17/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is top-40 material that proves "corporate rock" is dead. Released by Indie label Burbank Records barely 4 weeks ago, this release is already in its second printing.Paul Pope has been the consummate singer/songwriter/showman since fronting for the progressive rock band MOLKIE COLE in the early 1970's. Based in Cleveland Pope wrote the demo song "WINTER" that landed Molkie Cole their recording contract with Janus Records(who had also just signed Al Stewart(Time Passages, Year of the Cat). Pope split from MOLKIE COLE citing management difficulties but retained a massive cult following of Cleveland OH, Erie PA, and Buffalo NY area fans on the strength of his live performances.Pope has chosen to include several live tracks on this, his first release in over 10 years. Pope's writing style; Honest, stripped-down, and REAL shows his incredible range. Listen to the first track, written during the Gulf War titled BOMBS!
The balance of the CD includes new, previously unreleased tracks, and the aforementioned LIVE cuts. While WINTER is truly a cult classic that shines even brighter live, LOOKIN' BACK holds its own too with a great deal of crowd input. The "Tour-de-Force" though is the eleven-plus minute epic "UNTITLED". This song is consummate Pope LIVE. Even though he is noted for his outrageous stage antics, Pope takes his artistry to an amazing level with this breathtaking live version of a song he wrote after the untimely death of his father when Paul was just 15! The passion and the pain show through and the audience truly feels his emotions here. It is sad that in this world of corporate rock (Backdoor Boys, [...])this song will probably never get any airplay. LONE SHOE is a raucous party in the apartment upstairs that you wish you were invited to, but you can be by getting this CD and joining the cult.BOMBS!, and WINTER are currently in heavy rotation in several markets including Buffalo and Cleveland and hopefully they will migrate to the rest of the world so that the genius of Paul Pope can be appreciated by all."
Paul Pope rediscovered

"I'm soooo glad I bought this CD. I didn't think they made music like this anymore. I remember seeing Paul Pope live performing some of these songs and it really brought back some great memories (The Surf Club at Bemus Point in particular). To hear them on CD (I still have the original Paul Pope the First album on vinyl) really made me happy. I was even more thrilled to hear live songs too. Whether you are a fan of this Party-Rock style of music, a longtime Paul Pope fan, or are just discovering him, this CD is one that will stay in the car. I bought 2 so I can have one always in the CD player at home. It's great to see you are still rocking Paul wherever you are.Alexandra"
