Synopsis

Album Description
Gerald Finzi (1901-56) first came to notice for his distinctive compositions in the early 1920s. He had a special affinity for choral and vocal music. His great Intimations of Immortality for chorus and orchestra was first written in the late 1930s, then revised a decade later. Patrick Hadley (1899-1973) is not so well known due to his small output. He was a nature composer after the manner of Delius, and influenced by folk music. His music evokes the English countryside. The Symphonic Ballad, based on the folk song "The Trees So High," is one of Hadley's acknowledged masterpieces.
