CD Reviews

4 new tunes...sort of......
L. Tucker | NY | 09/12/2007
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I originally bought this for the 4 somewhat newer tunes as the rest of them are from the Bazooka (or Superstition in Europe) release that he & Carmine Appice put out in 2005.

The newer tunes are:

-Gimmie Back My Bullets (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

-Waitin' For The Bus (ZZ Top)

-Jesus Just Left Chicago (ZZ Top)

-Lights Out (UFO)

Some or all of these "newer" tunes can be found on various tribute CDs for the original artists that these songs originally came from.

These 4 "newer" songs are quite impressivly done by PT and therefore, make it almost worth getting the CD, even if you have already purchased Bazooka (Superstition in Europe). If you haven't bought Bazooka, then it's a great CD.

Now for my one grip with this CD: The other 9 tracks which can also be found on Bazooka, have been remixed and therefore sound quite different. The 4 "newer" songs mentioned above may have been remixed as well, but I don't have the tribute CDs that they were originall on.

The apparent remixing has made the songs sound a bit louder with more pronounced bass (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). There has also been this different reverb(s) but on the drums and maybe even the whole mix which is taking a bit to get use to (ZZ Top Six Pack anyone...), mainly because I'm use to the original versions found on Bazooka.

In Short, a fine release of Pat Travers material (especially for the 4 "newer" tunes). His version of UFO's "Lights Out" is spectacular to say the least. If you already have Bazooka (Superstition in Europe), then be aware that you're only getting 4 "newer" tunes......

If you're debating on whether to get "Bazooka" or this CD, keep in mind one thing:

This CD has the 4 "newer" tunes mentioned above not found on

"Bazooka".

"Bazooka" has Misfortunate One, Babylon Baby, and Bazooka.

I couldn't do without any of them, so I bought both. :)"
