CD Reviews

Incredible straight ahead jazz guitar!
Leigh Durlacher | Clearwater, FL USA | 12/01/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First of all, I own quite a number of Pat Martino albums, and this is one of my favorite. It features a few straight ahead tunes written by Pat, and Blue in Green by Miles Davis. The rhythm section is tight, with excellent comping and solos by James Ridl on piano. The session really cooks! The music is a perfect vehicle for some wonderful jazz guitar playing, and Pat Martino is at some of his best playing ever. The unique sound, timing and phrasing, and the wounderful ideas expressed are at times hypnotic. I strongly recommend getting this CD if you want to experience jazz guitar from one of the best! I must mention that there are a number of other excellent Pat Martino albums available, including "Footprints", "We'll Be Together Again", and "Exit" to name a few - all with superb renditions of standards, as well as "Joyous Lake" which was more jazz fusion oriented (reissued as "First Light"). The more recent "Nightwings" is also worthwhile."
Multi tonal Choromatics

"Pat Martino is Contemperary Jazz GTR . Interchang is a good Jazz CD because Pat is playing with the exact same musicians , in his rhthm section as many Saxaphone greats used on thier versions of the same songs . It seems Sax gets more Air play on the Radio than Pat does . Pat Can play all the same fast chops the Sax greats can. Only pat does it on GTR . Pat Showed the world what Multiple substitutions coupled with Chromatic rruns sound like on guitar , back in the 60s , Pat is the greatest . Hard Bop at it's best not some cheezy computer rhythm section .5 STARs OFCORSE it's PM"
