CD Reviews

IL FAIT CHAUD
Jacquelyn Sanders | NEW YORK, NY United States | 02/19/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I recently saw episode #93, Season 6 of Sex And The City and Les Tentations' song "Il Fait Chaud" was playing in the background when Carrie's boyfriend Alexandre was giving her a diamond necklace. That song is hot! I like how they rap in French. I definitely recommend this CD."
BEST HIP-HOP I'VE EVER HEARD
CARLOS ESTRADA | Glendale, CA United States | 09/16/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This cd is definitely the best hip-hop i have ever heard. It's not much rap, but almost all hip-hop. Passi mixes the African groove with the French flare, and in all is a pure funky album.
IAM rapper, Akhenaton, wrote a large part of the script, and along with the lovely female singer Assia, adds more touch to Passi's album, and it shows why this album is a success, and Passi succeeds in his first album. Passi proudly represents his African roots. He commemerates his father "Tu me manques". "Le Keur Sambo", is a funky-get down kinda song that'll make you wanna dance, and also "Il fait chaud", "Les Flammes du mal", are great songs. But this entire album is great work, and Passi's style flows and grooves, and I am always constantly listening to this cd.
I can honestly recommend this album to anyone who likes hip-hop.
Any comments on French Hip-Hop or Rap, please e-mail me."
Amazon.fr's (and My) Review
C. Sullivan-Brown | Renton, WA Etats-Unis | 08/27/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Imperfect translation of France's Amazon review: "The instant hit 'Je Zappe et Mate' [I Channel Surf & Keep an Eye Out] unhappily hides rapper and author Passi's quality. 'Le maton me guette' [The Guard Is on the Lookout for Me] (on his jailtime), 'Tu me manques' [You Miss Me] (on his absent father) or 'Le sang de la vendetta' [Vendetta's Blood] (duet with Akhenaton, who also wrote a large part of the CD) shows that the Congolese of Sarcelles packs another wallop with easy rap hits like 'Il fait chaud' [It's Hot]. With Les Tentations [Temptations], and before with his successful experience with Bisso Na Bisso, Passi proves his place in the pantheon of the moment, as a dynamic entrepreneur and inspired creator. Far from the furor of his first group, Passi now proves himself to be a mature rapper, a man of reflection, who has overcome snares and who throws in a moral and constructive wisdom. Without ever forgetting the festive and danceable aspect of things, the African fiber goes up against the urban fiber of his being. -Jean-Eric Perrin"Unfortunately, I haven't been able to translate the lyrics and there's no such thing as "Parental Advisory" in France, so I don't know if they're decent. (I'm rather a prude and like philosophical stuff like, for instance, Manau. One of the reasons I enjoy French rap and R&B is because there is some mindful, responsible stuff out there with actual MUSIC in the background.) By the way, perhaps it was because I didn't understand the lyrics, but I really LIKED "Je Zappe et Mate". In any case, the music itself is very good and definitely a lot better sounding than American rap. Expand your horizons!"
