Maturation Of The Party
Calatine9 | Tupelo,MS USA | 12/21/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album showed growth in The Party. It showed off not only more of there vocal talents, but as writers as well, they wrote most of the songs on this album. 01.Free-Very jumpy tune. 1 of 3 songs on the album, penned by "Mr. New Jack Swing" himself, Teddy Riley. Sung by Chase Hampton and DeeDee Magno, and I'll bet a lot of fans were shocked when Damon Pampolina bust these rhymes (raps): "We The People,Who The Hell Are They Foolin'?! Constitution Made By The Union"! The song is basically about when you finally learn that growing up is not all its cracked up to be.02.Change On Me-Penned (and performed) by DeeDee along with Tiffini Hale. The song is about letting that someone you know and that you can tell them anything, you don't have hide nothing from or change your additude towards them. Very poppy, but enjoyable.03.All About Love-2nd of 3 Teddy Riley songs. Albert Fields gives a firm, but smooth and soulful delivery on here, with DeeDee and Tiffini working their backup vocals on there as well. The song basically talks having found the perfect love in your life.04.I Want You-Penned and performed by Damon. It explains wanting a certain female. It also features the word `Damn' on there, another Party first. Plus,it also sends a short little message on safe sex: "If you're get with it,protect it". 05.In My Life-A very smooth and mellowy ballad which finds DeeDee and Chase doing their second duet on this album. In My Life talks about how even when relationships goes through its ups and downs, that love will always come out on top.06.Where Is My Romeo-Sung by Tiffini, this beautiful ballad talks about a girl hoping one day to find Mr. Right. The song also shows a growth in Tiffini's vocal talents.07.Frontin'-Penned and performed by Albert and Damon, this 70's-sounding funk/hip hop joint expresses what could happen if you ever got caught lying and cheating on the one you're suppose to love. Albert even throws in a little Al Green influence in there as well.08.Let's Get Right Down To It-Penned and produced by Dr. Dre (Yes,the same Dr. Dre of N.W.A & The Chronic fame.),Albert and Tiffini sings about something everybody's singing and talking about, and selling these days.....SEX! This is not you're average tip of the mill Party song, the beats and the meldoies are totally different from the other songs. Dre even has some speaking parts on here as well.09.At All Times-3rd of 3 penned Teddy Riley songs. DeeDee this time takes the mic on this hi-paced New Jack tune. At All Times explains about a girl wanting to be more than just friends to a guy who already has a girlfriend who keeps hurting him all the time.10.It's Out Of My Heart-Albert and Damon team up once again to sing about a guy trying real hard to tell a girl how he truly feels about her.11.Needin' Someone- A Chase Hampton penned and performed ballad where he tells a girl how much he needs her in his life.12.Independent Woman-Very `30's jazz oriented. Produced by Bernard Edwards of Chic fame (R.I.P.),Tiffini sings about being a woman who's trying to hold her own without help from a man.13.Cappuccino And Bacon-First instrumental on the album where The Party wrote, produced, and played very instrument on this song. Chase-Lead Guitar,Albert-Bass,DeeDee-Keyboards,Damon-Drums,and Tiffini-Percussion. Sounds kinda like The Archies' music whenever watch their cartoons.14.Life Ain't Nothin' But A Party-Definitely lives up to its name. Penned and performed by The Party, they show how they have a goodtime and the people that they're with as well. 15.Quien Es Mi Romeo-Spanish version of Where Is My Romeo. This album is incredible and it could've gone real far with the right promotion. All in all,The Party still kicks..."

"I loved The Party. These five teenagers, Chase, Damon, Tiffini, Albert and DeeDee, were members of the MMC back in late 80's early 90's and they were very talented, they were trendsetters. Listening to their music brings me back memories of my childhood, when I was only a teenager whose only worry was to have fun and get to know the world.

This CD is their best. You can notice how much they grew up professionally from their first album. Songs like "Free", "Change on me", "At all times" and "Needing someone", "All about love" rocked!

It is ironic how some members like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake (who were also in the MMC) made it in showbusiness. Do you have any idea how talented these kids were? I don't know what they needed to make it big, to become the great stars they were supposed to be. I wish they had a reunion concert or something like that, to let the rest of the world know how much they missed, because they were great!

If you have the time to get this CD, do it. You won't regret it.

We miss The Party, where are you guys???
