CD Reviews

The Victorian Era.....It's Not Just for Haunting Houses Anym
Mark Silvestri | Baltimore, MD | 09/03/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Having heard Gavin Goszka's work with Midnight Syndicate, it's plain he's a keyboard wizard. On hearing It's Not the Coat Makes the Gentleman, it's an added bonus that Gavin has quite a remarkable set of pipes.....the man can sing.......well. The disc itself is a well rounded lineup of songs from the Victorian era. The arrangements are modern, but Gavin's vocals never allow the listener to forget that these songs are from a kinder, simpler time. While the entire album is a great listen, the two songs that stand out for me are the aural roller coaster ride of I've Worked Eight Hours This Day, with its whipcord vocals and fast paced tempo, and the absolutely gorgeous In The Gloaming. It's Not the Coat Makes the Gentleman is a true gem and Gavin, quite the gemcutter."
Brilliant!

"Gavin's brilliantly selected and well-executed set of traditional and Victorian songs have been arranged with a contemporary twist. "It's Not The Coat Makes The Gentleman" is yet another facet of this artist's talent and creativity. I especially loved the sensitive vocals on "In The Gloaming." With Parlormuse, Gavin has found a unique way to re-purpose the music and lyrics from a short step back in time in a modern way. The result is both nostalgic and fresh. Innovative? You bet! I can't wait to see what Gavin comes up with next!"

"I thought the mix of old sound along with new made this a very enjoyable CD to listen to. Gavin Goszka's voice was a major contributing factor along with the instrumental elements that made for a nice blend and created a sense of pulling you into the Victorian era while listening. A must buy!"
