Synopsis

Product Description
Texas has nearly 80,000 miles of state-maintained highways. In the process of recording their debut EP, Angles and Altitudes, Paperwork covered enough mileage to make it across nearly a tenth of those roads. This physical distance is mirrored in the musical range of the record, from the mellow opening chords of the title track to the lush, crashing finale of the closer. Paperworks first offering is nothing if not ambitious. The disparate sounds of the record range from the dense arrangement of War of 1812, complete with string quartet, to the straight-forward folk of Your Old Coat, which was recorded on the porch, in a single take, straight to tape. Recorded in a house on the Pedernales River, 15 miles outside the small Texas town of Johnson City, the record focuses on the ways that our families and their history shape our lives and who we are. The location selected for the recording sessions is a veritable landmark in multi-instrumentalist Ross Ingram s family, and as such, served not only as an isolated place to make music, but as a tangible tie-in to the lyrical content of the record. Ingram, whose past engineering work includes Austin psych-rockers The Black Angels, handled the engineering duties on the record.
