Synopsis

Product Description
PJ Proby recorded for Liberty in the early 60s, but success proved elusive, until 1964 when an introduction to Jack Good led to an invitation to the UK to appear on the global TV special Around The Beatles. Proby then landed a contract with UK Decca, with whom he enjoyed big hits with Hold Me and Together . Now basing his career in the UK, the singer was back on Liberty between 1964 and 1970, with nine further hit singles. Proby brought his extraordinary voice to bear on a wide range of material, encompassing Brian Wilson and Lennon/McCartney songs, R&B, country, ballads and standards. This 1973 Ember album provides ample illustration of the diversity of his repertoire and his remarkable vocal mannerisms. I m Yours had been trailered by a single, a revival of Paul Anka s Put Your Head On My Shoulder , coupled with Momma Married A Preacher , a fine new song in a similar vein to Son Of A Preacher Man . Proby also tackles two songs which had been chart-toppers for the Platters, Twilight Time and Only You . Draw Me A Circle had appeared on Barbra Streisand s The Third Album . Stay A While had been recorded by Dickie Valentine, while Ecstasy ' and Where had both been cut for Ember already, by Steve Cassidy and Vic Damone respectively. New song Sunday Goodbye provides Proby with an opportunity to rock out.
