Full throttle psychedelic guitar jams
John Q Public | Denver, CO United States | 05/23/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Bari Watts has got to be one of the most amazing and criminally unknown guitarists to stroll this swirling green earth. Like his comrade, Nick Saloman of Bevis Frond fame, Bari is (in my mind) among the greatest psychedelic guitarists of all time. This album (yes, I still call 'em albums) is a veritable feast for the cerebral cortex and ears of the connoisseur of full-throttle instrumental guitar freak-outs. Essentially a series of jams, this is not idle noodling, but ripping good stuff by one of the foremost trios of modern psychedelia (Bari Watts - guitar; Ric Gunther - drums; Terry Horbury - bass). Bari's playing is deeply steeped in the astral sonic explorations of Jimi Hendrix (hello - they ARE named the Outskirts of Infinity!!!!). That said, this is far from derivative, and more in the spirit of all that I love about full fledged abandon to the muse of beautifully powerful psychedelia. This is not hard or mellow - just wild.....I've got a wild mind....and I dig the way these cat's caress the deep recesses of my blissed-out grey matter. It ain't hi fidelity stuff, but it sure is high something......

If you are a psycho-delic guitar freak then you owe it to yourself to find a copy of this and everything else that these fine gentlemen play. If you are looking for sweet little toe-tapping ditties or the latest tripe from some American Bridle wanna-be singer, then y'all are a long way from home podner....but if you are looking for some rich, pulsating, brain-teasingly wild guitaristy that explores the outskirts of infinity, then come on in....pull up a cushion and dig. It may not be a 'new" sound, but it still sounds fresh and oh-so-live to my earholes. Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Hazel, Nick Saloman, Bari Watts - these are my psychedelic guitar heroes.... let it rip....increase the peace.

cheers,

Scott dada Denver
