Somewhere, sometime, lose yourself with this...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is my favorite Laswell/Namlook disc. In fact, this is my favorite thing Laswell has put his touch on. Outland 3 is quite a change of pace from Outland 1 & 2 and very different from their Psychonavigation series. The drum programming and thick basslines all have that "Laswell" feel to them but with a much more modern touch. The first two songs are phenomenal with Namlook's bleeps, blurbs, and squiggles chaotically making rythyms and beats; while Laswell's drums and bass dance all around the keyboards. Track 2, The Question Of Containment, is a twenty + minute travel through ambience, electronic, melodic, and psychodelic funk. Namlook's keyboard work is intertwining with your spine and brain before you realize that you have been possessed by this song, an odd feeling but quite wonderful. The last track DSTC is a fast paced drum machine inspired romp through the fifties sci-fi matinees, complete with samples. It starts off with an ebow treated guitar for about two minutes, and then the drum machine comes thundering in and the bassline comes rolling in like a freight train; this track is one of my favorites of all of Laswell's songs. Too bad it is the shortest track at just under eight minutes. It seems strange to say that it is a short track (after all it's almost eight minutes), but after the first three songs with 19, 21, and 15 minutes of pure musically bliss, it all ends too soon."
