"Oscar Peterson quickly became one of my favorite musicians last summer when I stumbled across his "We Get Requests" album while searching for "something new from someone new" for my CD collection. I've been a happier man ever since! This elusive CD was well worth the wait. At first listening, you may feel the string section takes away from Oscar's impeccable piano stylings, especially if you're used to hearing just the trio. But West Coast arranger extraordinaire Russell Garcia is no stranger to jazz recordings and does not cloy Oscar's wonderful playing. They complement each other wonderfully. RUBY is handled in the right tempo, "bluesy" the liner notes call it. STARS FELL ON ALABAMA is sauntered through by Oscar and Russell in a sentimental tempo that invokes easier and forgotten times. Other classics such as BLACK COFFEE and a heartfelt reading of LAURA are included here, also a version of TENDERLY, which was a semi-hit and title track for an earlier Peterson album (with The Trio) But perhaps my favorite on this album is I THOUGHT ABOUT YOU. It's just the right combination of strings and ivories from Russell and Oscar, right from the opening notes. Do not miss this fine album!"
Wonderfully romantic

"Excellent... if you are into quiet, late 1950's sound, with strings, bordering with easy listening or "dinner jazz".

Oscar Peterson is playing as elegantly and efficiently as ever, in a rather relaxed manner, creating a wonderful, romantic atmosphere.
This is even less jazzy that the record Peterson produced a few years later with Nelson Riddle's orchestra.

Even if the style is obviously different, it reminds me somewhat of George Shearing's "Satin Affair". or Nat King Cole's "The Piano Style of NKC"."
