CD Reviews

Funky! 4 of the original Parliaments return to WestBound.
PFunkster | Iowa City, Iowa (USA) | 01/20/2000
(3 out of 5 stars)

"The Parliaments, which later evolved into Funkadelic and Parliament, consisted of George Clinton, Fuzzy Haskins, Ray Davis, Grady Thomas and Calvin Simon. George Clinton didn't appear to play any part in this CD. Instead, this CD is the other four Parliaments returning to WestBound Records (Funkadelic's original record label). The music is pure funk, with a little hip-hop fused into it. What Dat Shakin' is a very funky song and even more fun after you've seen it in concert. Unfortunately, it suffers from overkill on this CD. The other songs are also good but few in number, which makes the EP category very appropriate. It's still a worth while investment. If you've bought one of George or Bootsy's more recent CD's, this might serve as a nice return to the more traditional PFunk sound. If you have a chance to see these guys in concert, GO! They play most of the PFunk classics and they put on a wild show. They don't have the chants but they definitely have the funk!"
