""Nine" opened on Broadway in 1982 to fairly positive reviews and positive audience response. It went on to win multiple Tony Awards including Best Musical. This remaster of the original cast album is well worth owning. Maury Yeston's score is full of infectious and, sometimes, haunting melodies and is very listenable. All performers give A+ performances with special honors to Karen Akers and Anita Morris. The 2-CD set has pretty much all the music (with a few cuts in dance material) and a little of the dialogue so you can follow the story. It made me want to rent Fellini's 8 1/2 (on which it's based) to see what it was like. I haven't done that yet. The sound and engineering a top-notch and the orchestra is in fine form. The only problem I have with it - and I guess this is an issue with Sony (the manufacturer) and not the recording - is their now use of what is basically a gate-fold cardboard box as packaging. Tacky, in my opinion. Anyway, this CD should not disappoint you but it will challenge you."
