CD Reviews

Don't miss this band!
10/17/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I will never understand the music industry...why on EARTH hasn't this band gotten the mainstream critical acclaim they so richly deserve? The same industry zipperheads that bring us one lamentably pneumatic, barely-pubescent zero after another have yet to wake up and find Opie Gone Bad, a truly hot band that actually has something intelligent to say along with the real-life experiences to back it up. As others have pointed out, if you're east of the Mississippi, you may never have heard of Opie before, but don't let that deter you. This uber-talented group of four can kick it with the best of them, producing irresistibly funky, provocative, sly tunes that are guaranteed to leave you wanting more. Buy anything they've done--you won't regret it."
If you like Big Head Todd or Matchbox20...

"Cool! Opie on Amazon.com! Opie Gone Bad done good! You'll notice that the reviews are all Colorado (or former Colorado) folks. Well, hopefully that will change! In Colorado we know them as one of the local legends that pack their shows and leave us all wondering why The Backstreet Boys are Millionaires and Jake Schroeder (lead vocals) is bartending? If you like any of the mainstream "college bands" like Matchbox20, Big Head Todd and the Monsters (another excellent Colorado bamd), Third Eye Blind (who is very weak in comparison) or any number of the big guys, you'll like Opie! "Could We Please Have Sex" has some great lyrics and a catchy tune. "Little House" is one of my favorite songs and their cover of "Sympathy for the Devil/Livin' For The City" is very funky! "Cold In Here" is by far the best song on the album, but was meant to be played live in a bar! However, if you can't get to Denver to catch that (and until they make it big and start playing your local stadium), the album version is pretty darn cool! You go Opie!"
Best band in Denver

"As a former Denver resident, my husband and I made it to every Opie show we could. If you are new to the area or just visiting for the weekend, we highly recommend seeing a live show. Otherewise, you can listen to this CD and their newest one (II only available outside of Colorado via Baby Jane Records web page). They are a great groovin' band! Their current lineup which appears on their newest CD is extremely tight and talented. If you enjoy funky base lines and dancing in the car while you drive to work, you'll love listening to O.G.B. I have been converting every Houstonian I meet to a new Opie fan!"
